Fast-track anesthesia provides a reduction in hospital and intensive care unit length of stay, thus a reduction in hospital costs with lower costs and high quality care. Fast-track cardiac anesthesia aims tracheal extubation in 8 hours. Fast-track tracheal extubation begun to turn into a general practice, but methods allowing fast-track extubation are needed to be further investigated. Among these methods there are intraoperative monitoring approaches including the depth of anesthesia.
The effect of BIS monitoring during coronary artery bypass grafting surgery to intraoperative anesthetic and analgesic requirement and postoperative time to extubation investigations for evaluation of the depth of anesthesia effectively, induced development of recent techniques for central nerve system monitorization. Bispectral index (BIS) is one of the most reliable monitoring systems of brain and BIS is the most frequently used processed electroensefalograpy monitor in cardiac anesthesia practice.
